Sydney startup Build Paperless opens construction management to AI agents

Sydney, Australia, 25 September 2026: Build Paperless, a Sydney construction software company built from scratch in 2025, has opened its platform to AI agents and is now listed in Anthropic's Claude Connectors Directory. It is the first Australian job management software in the directory, where Australian companies Atlassian and Canva also sit among the apps Claude can securely connect to.

Construction is one of the largest industries in the Australian economy and one of the slowest to modernise. It accounted for 7.0 per cent of GDP and around 1.3 million workers in 2023-24, and completed $82.5 billion of work in the June quarter of 2026 alone, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Yet the Productivity Commission found in 2025 that the industry completes half as many homes per hour worked as it did in 1995, with most jobs still run on spreadsheets, email and paper.

Build Paperless exposes 37 tools to AI agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard Anthropic introduced for connecting AI models to software. The same server powers the Claude directory listing, an open npm package, @buildpaperless/mcp, for developers working in Claude Code and Cursor, and public developer documentation. Each builder signs in with OAuth, so an agent only ever acts with that person's own permissions.

Governance is built into the design rather than added later. Agents can read a job, log a site diary entry or raise a defect, but anything that changes a contract, such as a variation, arrives as a proposal the builder must approve. Financial data is withheld unless the builder grants it separately. Agent access is sold as a paid add-on to a Build Paperless subscription, so AI use is a revenue line from day one.

"This year every construction platform will be asked the same question by its customers: can my AI assistant work with it?" said Harry Rao, founder of Build Paperless. "We built Build Paperless to be the system of record an agent can be trusted with. It reads the job, drafts the paperwork and hands the decision back to the builder. That is the difference between an AI demo and software a builder will let near a two million dollar contract."
